Biography Of Director General Of The UAE National Library And Archives
Abdulla Majid Al Ali
His Excellency Abdulla Majed Al Ali has been holding the position of Director General of the National Library and Archives since August 2022 and prior to that, he held the position of Acting Director General since November 2021 and the position of Executive Director of the National Library and Archives from December 2020 to November 2021.
His Excellency was the Executive Director of Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre from the date of its inception in 2019 until his transfer to the National Library and Archives. He was the Executive Director of Dar Al Kutub Sector in the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (2016 – 2019). He held the position of Director of the Libraries Department (2012 – 2016), and Director of Sheikh Zayed Book Award (2006 – 2012). His Excellency had started his career by working in the Armed Forces (1994 – 1999), then he worked as editor in the Public Relations Department at Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Co. Limited (ADGAS) in 2000.
His vast administrative experience helped him manage important projects during his work in the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, such as: «Sheikh Zayed Book Award», «Kalima» project, «Isdarat» project, «Abu Dhabi International Book Fair», and His Excellency also supervised the establishment of Qasr Al Watan Library.
His Excellency has great experience in managing strategic cultural projects and international awards. During his long career, he served as a member in a number of Boards of Directors, including: the Board of Directors of the National Library and Archives, the Board of Trustees of Sheikh Zayed Book Award, the Board of Trustees of the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (Booker), the Scientific Committee of Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, the Supreme Committee of Kanz Al Jeel Award. He now chairs the Higher Committee of the Golden Narrative Award.
His Excellency participated in several self-professional and development training courses including the competency of boards of directors and good governance course at GCC Board Directors Institute (October 2018), Senior Leadership course (CEOs) at Harvard Business School (April 2018) and the certified assessor course in the European Excellence Model Program (EFQM) in 2010.
His Excellency Abdulla Majed Al Ali was born in 1976. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication – Public Relations from the United Arab Emirates University in 1998, and a Master’s degree in Human Studies from Ain Shams University in 2005, with thesis entitled “Change in lifestyle and its correlation to some behavioral and cultural changes in the UAE society”. Now His Excellency is preparing to obtain a doctoral degree in Arabic language at “Mohammed Bin Zayed University for Human Sciences”, entitled: “Discourse Analysis in the Messages of Zayed the First: An Applied Study in Text Linguistics”, under the supervision of Professor Radwan Al-Sayed.
