About DataCiteUAE
The UAE National Library and Archives (NLA) joined the DataCite Community at the beginning of 2025 by establishing a DOI Consortium in UAE. This initiative is a significant step towards enhancing the research infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates, fostering collaboration, and providing opportunities to the academic and cultural institutions to link their outputs with persistent identifiers.
This initiative reflects the NLA’s dedication to promoting open research and fostering a collaborative environment that enhances the discoverability and reuse of knowledge. By integrating research outputs into the global scholarly ecosystem, the consortium enables institutions to achieve greater visibility and recognition for their contributions.
Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs)
By offering Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), the DataCiteUAE aims to enbale organizations across the UAE to assign unique, permanent identifiers to a broad range of resources. These DOIs ensure that resources are easily discoverable, accessible, and citable on a global scale.
DOIs can be assigned to a wide and diverse range of outputs and resources, including dissertations, journal articles, reports, images, awards, physical objects, datasets, and more. For further details, please visit: https://datacite.org/blog/datacite-dois-for-more-than-just-data/
Connecting your repository or system with DataCite infrastructure and assigning DOIs to your research outputs and resources can greatly enhance the visibility and impact of your institution while supporting your transition towards an Open Research environment.
