The National Library and Archives and Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi celebrated the graduation ceremony of the 9th cohort of students of the Professional Certificate in Archives and Records Management held at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi’s campus. This cohort included a big number of professionals from various sectors, including the Ministry of Defence, Emirates News Agency (WAM), NLA, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, Department of Education and Knowledge, and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).
On this occasion, H.E. Abdullah Majed Al Ali, Director-General of the NLA, said: “It is great that the graduation of the 9th cohort of students of the Professional Certificate in Archives and Records Management coincides with National Reading Month, which we celebrate at the National Library and Archives with hundreds of events and activities. On this occasion, I am pleased to extend my warmest congratulations to the graduated students, and I hope that they will be able to apply the knowledge they gained during their study in their fields of work. I would like to thank the academic staff and the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi for their efforts”.
“This certificate enhances the students’ archiving and documentation skills so that it earns the trust of those working in the archiving field. It also attracted a large turnout from across the UAE with the aim of promoting the skills of the employees at federal and local government archives. That is why the NLA and Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi are preparing for organizing the professional certificate courses outside Sorbonne University campus in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi”, he added.
His Excellency emphasized that this certificate preserves its value and status because it keeps pace with the rapid technological development, and it comes in accordance with the requirements of archives organization and the development of their practices and standards in line with the future expectations. Accordingly, it became a worthy professional certificate. This heralds the transition to the knowledge economy that supports the knowledge community.
Dr. Laurence Renault, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, congratulated the graduates for their remarkable efforts to receive this certificate. She expressed her gratitude to the faculty members for providing high-quality education. She continued “It is our pleasure to celebrate again the success of this academic program of archives and records management, which represents the exceptional relationship between Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and the NLA. We are always keen on providing outstanding programmes of high educational levels to foster the students’ skills and expand their professional horizons”.
At the end of the ceremony, H.E. Abdulla Majed Al Ali and Dr. Laurence Renault honoured the graduates and awarded certificates to them.
It is worth mentioning that the ceremony was attended by Dr. Majed Al Khemeiri, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Administrative and Financial Affairs at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, Mr. Hamad Al Mutairi, Director of the Archives Department at the NLA, and a number of VIPs and directors from both institutions.
