The National Library and Archives showcases its publications and services at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair
H.E. Abdullah Majid Al-Ali, Acting Director General, said that the platform of the National Library and Archives (NLA) at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2022 will witness the launch of several new and translated publications, mainly books celebrating Al-Dhafra region and discussing its history, heritage and water resources for its historical significance in the history of Abu Dhabi. The NLA will also organize a cultural program on the sidelines of the book fair.
This was part of His Excellency's talk about the NLA’s participation in the 31st edition of Abu Dhabi International Book Fair with a platform which showcases old and modern publications about the history and heritage of the UAE and the Gulf region. The NLA’s platform will host events covering all days of the exhibition and will introduce its various projects and services to researchers and those interested in the UAE's history and heritage.
His Excellency commented on this participation saying that the NLA is keen, as ever, to participate in this major cultural event to represent its educational role, encourage the dissemination of the culture of reading and inform its audience about its historical and heritage books, which provide documented and honest information to promote the spirit of belonging to the homeland, loyalty to its wise leadership and national identity enhancement.
His Excellency added that the NLA will highlight the agenda of its projects in various fields and inform the exhibition visitors about the new publications which will be launched in Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. It will also hold many national lectures and workshops on the sidelines of the exhibition.
The NLA’s platform at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair offers the exhibition's audience and participants the chance to learn about the services provided by its national trio: the Archives, the National Library, and the Preservation and Restoration building.
It should be noted that the NLA’s platform will witness the launch of the following publications "Al Dhafra Fort ", "Immigrants from Al Dhafra", "Al Dhafra Region in the Memorandum of the Under-Secretary of the United Kingdom in 1955", "Historical Water Resources in the Al Dhafra Region", and "The Arabian Peninsula and its environs in the western expeditions, from the 5th century BC to the early 20th century."
Among the books translated into other living languages, the NLA’s platform will witness the launch of the following books: "Al-Hosn Palace, Biography of the Rulers of Abu Dhabi", "Zayed from Challenges to Union", and "Zayed, Man Who Built a Nation".
The NLA’s participation includes a cultural program full of lectures and reading workshops in the Event Platform of the Kids’ Hall at the book fair. These lectures and cultural workshops discuss the NLA’s books, namely "Zayed from Challenges to Union", "Khalifa, A Journey into the Future", the educational booklet "Watani Al Emarat", and "Qasr Al Hosn", in addition to “Al Masirah”, which includes readings in the NLA’s publications.
Additionally, the NLA will hold several side educational workshops for School Students in collaboration with the Emirates Schools Establishment. It will also hold several lectures, namely the UAE, Homeland of Tolerance and Zayed’s Ambition Reaches Space
The platform will feature a special corner for restoration to introduce the public to the importance of the NLA’s restoration laboratory in bringing damaged documents back to life, and giving old documents a longer life by restoring and preserving them in appropriate conditions and according to ideal standards.
It is worth mentioning that the NLA’s platform will display on its facades documents chronicling important stages of the UAE’s history, and showing the NLA’s role and functions in preserving the documentary heritage of the state, mainly historical photographs of the Emirates sheikhs who impressed the whole world with their achievements. There will also be screens that show short films documenting the UAE's renaissance and prosperity and the efforts of its great leaders who established the Union, developed the people and the place, and made the UAE a modern country among the top countries of the world.
