The National Archives Launches its Ambitious Strategic Plan 2019-2021 



To meet the goals set in UAE Vision 2021

The UAE National Archives launched its ambitious Strategic Plan 2019-2021 at a meeting chaired by H.E. Dr. Abdulla Alraisi, Director General of the National Archives, with the participation of departments’ directors and all staff members. Departments reviewed their future projects that serve the vision, mission and objectives of the National Archives, in line with the UAE vision 2021, which aims to make the UAE among the best countries in the world by the year 2021 when the UAE would celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Union.

The National Archives’ Director General talked about the value and the targets of the strategic plan. Thus, he emphasized that when creating this plan, the National Archives primarily considered the views of the Founding Leader, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and the aspirations of the wise leadership that pave the way to achieve the the goals set in the UAE vision 2021, which includes the advancement of the National Archives to become one of the world’s best archives.

He praised the continuous support of HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and President of the National Archives. He emphasized that His Highness’ directives are the secret to the National Archives’ advancement, success and excellence. The Director General also commended the National Archives’ Board of Directors chaired by H.E. Hamad Abdul Rahman Al-Midfaa for the constant support and prompt reaction to whatever serves the objectives of the National Archives and leads to more success in providing distinguished archival, documentary and research services.

Dr. Alraisi thanked all the staff members for their great efforts, which contributed to the National Archives’ advancement and achievements turning it into a reliable and distinguished center for studies and research pertaining to the history and heritage of the UAE and the Gulf region, in addition to its role in the preservation of records and historical documents of all kinds in order to provide documented historical information to decision makers, researchers, academics and students.

His Excellency urged all staff members to step up efforts to overcome any challenges and to introduce innovative ideas for further advancement. He pointed out that the new strategic plan is in harmony with the aspirations of the National Archives which is getting ready to hold the biggest archival event, the ICA Abu Dhabi 2020 Congress.  In fact, this quadrennial ICA Congress is the world’s largest archival event as more than 5000 participants from around the world will gather.  HE also indicated that the new strategic plan contributes to fulfilling the goals of the UAE vision 2021.

Department directors individually reviewed the vision of each department, the criteria for developing the strategic plan, the strategic objectives, sub-objectives, operational objectives and the projects and activities which each department seeks to achieve in the new Strategic Pan 2019-2021. 

The new strategic plan reviewed the most important future projects to achieve the strategic sub-objectives, such as:  building a contemporary national archiving system, increasing the National Archives' holdings and enhancing their accessibility, providing integrated intellectual research and services, enriching corporate and community outreach, enhancing civic spirit and national identity, providing information about the UAE history, building effective partnerships, developing community responsibility policies and procedures, promoting happiness and job loyalty, developing electronic and smart systems to make archival materials and information sources accessible, developing infrastructure and finding integrated and secure technical solutions, attracting and maintaining talents, improving administrative and financial competence and maintaining sustainability of the environment and occupational safety, etc.

The New Strategic Plan launching ceremony concluded with the honoring of outstanding staff members who were involved positively in the planning phases, informed their colleagues about their roles and provided creative ideas, together with those who contributed to institutional excellence.
